Trainee Solicitors
Ideally we expect trainees to have obtained a 2:1 degree or the equivalent and to have completed, or be due to complete their Legal Practice Course. Applicants must be Guernsey residentially qualified.
In addition to the academic side, we expect trainees to display the same qualities as anyone we recruit - a willingness to work hard and be a good team player, display good communication skills and to have a 'can do' attitude. It's also important to display a creative and commercially focused mind.
As a trainee you will be supported by a partner or other senior associate throughout your contract, and will probably share an office or sit near them. This means you will have the opportunity to learn by watching and listening as they carry out their roles on a daily basis. You will be encouraged to have as much 'hands on ' experience as you can and will be given direct client contact as soon as possible.
Your contract will involve you in placements within at least three different departments, and through our links within the City, the possibility of a secondment to a top flight London law firm.
Your training will involve learning about the law, dealing with clients and intermediaries, drafting, IT skills, time management and leadership. You will also be supported during your Professional Skills Courses and attend our own 'in-house' technical seminars.
You will also take an active role in the firm, in areas such as marketing and business development opportunities, or possibly updating colleagues on forthcoming changes to the law.
Although we are happy to consider applications for Training Contracts at any time, it is best that this is done during the final year of your degree course. If you are interested in experiencing the firm before this, consider our Vacation and Work Experience Scheme.
