Ian Kirk was one of two speakers that enthralled a huge audience of 170 guests at the most recent STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) talk at the OGH, the subject of which was Trust and Company Law Revision. Ian covered an update on recent changes to the statutory basis of trusts and companies.

Similar to the approach taken in other jurisdictions around the world in response to the credit crunch, in late 2008 the States of Guernsey resolved to establish a deposit compensation scheme to protect the deposits of retail depositors with local banks. The scheme covers the first £50,000 of deposits by individuals.

Collas Day held a seminar informing local Estate Agents that they would be required by 8 October 2008 to put procedures in place for customer due diligence, record-keeping, internal reporting and training relating to anti-money laundering - not formerly required. This came as a shock to many of them.

Mike Tidd took up his position as Chief Operating Officer at Collas Day at the beginning of September. Mike has operational control of the firm and will sit on the firm's management board.

Coryn Le Clerc was appointed a director of Collas Day subsidiary, the Guernsey Trust Company, in September. Coryn has worked for GTC for some 5 years as a manager.
