Diploma success for Collas Day Secretaries

Posted: 24 November 2009

Three secretaries from Collas Day have successfully completed the Institute of Legal Secretaries and PA's Diploma.

Den King and Aimee Huxster completed the Diploma through the GTA University Centre through night classes taught over a period of three months. Julie Dawson completed the same training via distance learning with Bristol University. The course provides a general overview of the English Legal System and covers specific areas of law such as Contract, Tort, Civil Litigation, Land Law and Conveyancing, and Succession. The lectures are delivered by local advocates and develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work as a legal secretary or PA. The qualification is nationally recognised, although the course covers Guernsey law across all modules.

Aimee Huxster works as a secretary in the Commercial Department. She said, "Completing the course has definitely given me more confidence in my role. I'm able to understand more of the processes involved in legal transactions, which means that I'm better placed to assist the team I work with. The Diploma was challenging, but I have really enjoyed getting back into studying again."

Jo Cottell, HR Manager said, "We're keen to encourage training of all our staff and support them through a wide variety of qualifications both legal and professional. Den, Aimee and Julie have had to work long hours to complete the Diploma and its never easy juggling work, family and study but all three have done so successfully and we're really proud of them."
