New Guernsey Advocate for Collas Day

Collas Day's newest Advocate has been called to the Guernsey Bar.

Advocate James Tee will now practise in the Dispute Resolution department where he has been assisting the team as well as managing an intensive study schedule since 2006.

Shortly after joining Collas Day with a degree in Law and Politics, James commenced the Bar Vocational Course (BVC) while working full time as a paralegal, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in July 2009. A three-month placement at L'Universite de Caen to attain the Certificat d'Etudes Juridiques Francaises et Normandes was followed by yet more study for the demanding Guernsey Bar examinations, which James undertook successfully in May.

He said, "I'm really delighted to finally become a member of the Guernsey Bar. It's been challenging over the last three years as I've worked my way through the BVC, studying in Caen, and the tough Guernsey Bar examinations, but I've had fantastic support from the firm and time off for study."

James is now looking forward to having some free time over the summer. He said "It will be great to have my weekends back and to be able to spend some time doing the things I enjoy. My biggest aim is to achieve a golf handicap so that I can take on my colleagues!"

Christian Hay, Collas Day's Head of Dispute Resolution, is pleased to welcome James back as a fellow Advocate in the team. "James has had to work incredibly hard over the last few years in a busy department, and with other pressures upon him. To be admitted to the Guernsey Bar just one year after completing the BVC shows real commitment and dedication, and for that we are very proud of him."

Senior Partner Chris Bound echoed Christian's comments. He said, "James' absolute commitment to his career coupled with his mature personality, are invaluable assets to Collas Day and the Island. We're delighted that he has so successfully completed his training with us and we're looking forward to working with James, and developing his career in the coming years."
