Collas Day is a well-respected and long-established name on the Guernsey legal scene. We offer legal services tailored to suit clients' individual requirements.
The firm has eight partners and 74 staff.
Most of our lawyers have trained and qualified in the UK, a few in other common law jurisdictions. The firm sets high standards in terms of the staff it recruits, with many lawyers coming from City firms. We have a growing exchange programme with City law firms for those of our staff training as UK solicitors.
Our capacity and commitment to training has been recognised by the Solicitors' Regulatory Authority and by the Institute of Directors and Guernsey Training Agency.
Our culture is to recognise and value everyone's contribution to the firm. Training and development is encouraged for all staff to allow everyone to achieve their potential. We look to reward for performance. We operate in a relaxed and open structure with a healthy mix of social and business activities. We are approachable and professional in our dealings.
We have in common a commitment to delivering excellent service.
The firm is based in St Peter Port, Guernsey. Historically we have only been located in the bailiwick of Guernsey. That has changed with the opening in Summer 2008 of an office in London.
We continue to practise Guernsey law, exclusively, at this time.
The firm offers a comprehensive range of legal services to the island's business community and internationally. It also provides fiduciary and private client services and is a leading service provider to the island's property market.
The firm advises and assists lawyers in other jurisdictions on matters of Guernsey law including regulatory issues and the provision of legal opinions.
Guernsey Trust Company
Collas Day also has a wholly owned subsidiary, Guernsey Trust Company Limited (GTC) that provides trustee, fiduciary and corporate administration services to institutional clients and high net-worth individuals. GTC undertakes the formation and administration of trusts, companies and limited partnerships.
The law firm is managed in four departments which all contribute substantially to the firm's activity:
Services are delivered to clients drawing on the skills and experience of the firm as a whole. The delivery of service to clients is the responsibility of partners and is coordinated by a client service partner in each case.
We have taken innovative steps to strengthen our management and operational capacities. This investment frees up the time of fee-earners and brings a greater range of skills and qualification to the strategic and operational tasks of management.
Mike Tidd was appointed as COO and started during the first week of September. Guernseyman Mike served with the Royal Navy for 18 years as a helicopter pilot before turning his attention to business. He previously worked for Barings, more recently Northern Trust, as Divisional Head of Human Resources and moved into management consultancy before joining the Collas Day team.
The firm's Management Board is chaired by Alex Rodger.
